We live in the richest nation in the world. Even our poor are richer than 95% of the world. It is highly unlikely that a young married couple are going to starve.. Moreover - Much of the poverty in this country is due to men's lack of commitment.

2 - immaturity. This cuts both ways. Many men are irresponsible because they have nothing that they are responsible for. I don't think this is good.

3 - Compatability. I think we give way too much heed to the Greek mythology about love.. There is not a magically compatible mate. We are way too selfish in picking mates, and as a result, we just don't. The compatible mate is the one that you can serve, not the one that fits your needs perfectly. If we are both Christians we should be every changing anyway.

I would highly recommend Voddie Bauchum's perspective on this topic. He is very sharp and convincing.

so...if we don't have the original manuscripts, an...

so...if we don't have the original manuscripts, and only the originals are infallible--just what have we based our beliefs on?

this has been a struggle for me...cuz even going back to the "Original" Greek may not be the original...where does the line get drawn? I'm not sure that the scientific theory of ID should be considered a fad. I would think many who get caught up in Christian fads wouldn't understand ID and would probably be the types who push for teaching the Genesis account in public schools.

Have you read Antony Flew's new book, There Is A God? He lists scientific evidence, mixed with philosophical reflection, as his reason for converting to theism(by which he really means deism). So I think he would agree with you on the claims of science not quite being enough.

Also, I'm surprised Hitchens mentions the eye. Behe even states in Darwin's Black Box that he can't use the eye to argue irreducible complexity, because there is too much going on at the molecular level in the eye to fully understand it yet. (granted, his book did come out several years ago)

Oh, and one more note, if you ever get a chance to hear Paul Nelson speak, take advantage of the opportunity. One point, I was under the impression that we really don't know if this version of the Joker had childhood trauma or not. He changed the story every time he told it. He changed the story to fit the fears of the person he was telling it to leaving the audience not knowing exactly what happened to make him the way that he is. As I took it this way, I really liked not "knowing" what made him crazy.
